Summer AmeriCorps Positions with the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) Shakespeare Program

The University of Notre Dame () is accepting applications for a Summer AmeriCorps Positions with the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) Shakespeare Program.

Applications will be accepted until 05/01/2024.

The RCLC Shakespeare Program offers a six-week summer Shakespeare Camp which includes Shakespeare and theatre education, academic enrichment, hands-on creative activities, and field trips. It culminates with a performance of a Shakespeare play.

AmeriCorps Position Summary:

The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for helping to facilitate the RCLC summer Shakespeare program, including the final performance of a Shakespeare play, and assisting with the RCLC Afternoon Summer program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in coordination of Shakespeare Summer Camp Activities. This may include: working with RCLC staff to develop and implement curriculum, leading projects and activities with youth, making arrangements for rehearsals and performances, recruiting volunteers to assist, greeting children and parents at the beginning and end of the day, tracking attendance, maintaining RCLC records as required, and helping with the Shakespeare play performance.
  • Assist with implementation of Afternoon Summer Program. This may include: leading activities, gathering supplies and resources, communicating with parents, working with children individually as well as in groups, and preparing meals/snacks.
  • Document program activities through photographs and text, and submit information to the RCLC web site and Facebook page.
  • Attend orientation and training, as well as summer staff and team meetings at the RCLC.

    AmeriCorps is a national service organization aimed at helping communities meet needs in areas including education by building the capacity of community organizations. These positions are service positions, rather than traditional "jobs." Each member completes a required number of service hours, and will receive an education award on completion of those hours; this education award may be used for future education or student loans. Members also receive a monthly living allowance for the three months of the summer term, May-July.

    There are both Quarter-Time and Minimum-Time summer AmeriCorps positions available with the RCLC Shakespeare Program.

  • A Quarter-Time AmeriCorps member must complete 450 hours of service by the end of the summer. The member will serve approximately 40 hours per week for the term of service. On completion of the 450 hours, the member will receive an education award.

    Compensation for a Quarter-Time member is as follows:
    Living Allowance: $1555 per month (May-July)
    Education Award $1,824 on completion of 450 service hours.

    A minimum-time AmeriCorps member must complete 300 hours of service by the end of the summer. The member will serve approximately 30 hours per week for the term of service. On completion of the 300 hours, the member will receive an education award.

    Compensation for a Minimum-Time member is as follows:
    Living Allowance: $1243 per month (May-July)
    Education Award $1,459 on completion of 300 service hours.



    Minimum Qualifications:
    High school diploma required, Bachelor's Degree preferred.

    Must be a U.S. Citizen or a lawful permanent resident alien.

    Must be 18 years old by 7/31/2024.

    Reliable transportation is a plus.

    Additional Qualifications include:
    - Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
    - Interest in education, working with at-risk youth, and community development.
    - Public speaking and the ability to teach/train others.
    - Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
    - Computer skills including facility with GoogleSuite and Microsoft Office.
    - Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    - Flexibility to work in a variety of settings.
    - Sensitivity, compassion, and listening skills required to work with a diverse audience including: RCLC staff, volunteers, fellow AmeriCorps members, Notre Dame and community partners, RCLC participants (ranging in age from early childhood through senior citizens), neighborhood residents, and families of youth participants.
