The University of Notre Dame () is accepting applications for a On-call Firefighter (Temporary).

The Notre Dame Fire Department is accepting applications for the position of On-Call Firefighter. On-Call firefighters for the Notre Dame Fire Department fill shift vacancies and special event needs. Firefighters at the University of Notre Dame are the primary source of fire protection, emergency medical services, fire prevention, fire detection and fire safety education for the Notre Dame community.
 On-Call Firefighters may work 24 hour shifts during which they maintain a constant state of readiness to respond to medical emergencies, reports of fires and activated fire alarms at the University of Notre Dame, St. Mary's College, Holy Cross College and surrounding areas. 

Outside of calls for service, On-Call Firefighters also inspect buildings for fire code and safety violations, test and inspect fire alarm systems, perform maintenance on department equipment and provide fire safety education to students, staff and faculty. Scheduling requirements include working at least 150 hours annually and/or 15 special event needs) and meeting training requirements as required by UND and the State of Indiana.

You will also be expected to work 3-4 football home game weekends each year (see und.com for home game schedule).


Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5 years Firefighting experience or successful completion of fire academy.
  • Valid State drivers/operators license.
  • Firefighter 1 & 2 (or equivalent) certification.
  • Indiana Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certification.


Preferred Qualifications:
A.A.S or BA/BS in related field preferred.

Hazardous Materials Operations certification,(Confined Space Rescue certification, High Angle Rescue certification, Trench Rescue certification, EMT-Advanced certification preferred.) Preference will also be extended to candidates who have work experience with fire alarm systems and water base fire protection systems.
