Job Description

Cleveland-Cliffs is currently recruiting upcoming college graduates for entry-level Associate Process Control Engineer positions at our Burns Harbor facility in Burns Harbor, IN.

One of the missions of Cleveland-Cliffs Steel is to utilize the latest technological advances available in the steel industry which affords our engineers countless, unique opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills they learned during their undergraduate studies - you will be involved with real-time computer control and monitoring of steel mill processes and perform engineering duties. Likewise, this mission also affords the Company the continuous need to recruit and hire the best and brightest process control engineers available.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Software development in a variety of programming languages and on a variety of hardware platforms
  • Maintenance of computer hardware and software
  • Maintenance and problem solving of all aspects of the automation system
  • Modifications to the automation system to adapt to new products and processes
  • Addressing issues that may impact production or system reliability
  • Process modeling for mill processes of a chemical, metallurgical and mechanical nature
  • Administration of a variety of Operating Systems and relational databases on workstations and servers
  • Regular written and oral reports on projects and the status of tasks
  • Installation of new process control systems as well as process control modernization projects
  • Occasional domestic and international travel to investigate and transfer technology
  • Working with complex measurement systems such as
    • Vision systems for product quality
    • Thermal imaging temperature measurements
    • RFID and barcode tag reading for product identification
    • X-ray, nuclear gauges, and other gauging systems
  • Working with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission and specialty interfaces
  • Close coordination with a production department

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience or internship/co-op in manufacturing
