About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Senior Project Controls Specialist to support our Great Basin sub-region operations in Utah and Idaho. Based in Salt Lake City, the selected candidate will enjoy a hybrid work environment, blending office and remote work for flexibility and convenience.

This full-time position offers competitive benefits and hourly compensation, typically requiring 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime to meet project deadlines.


What you will accomplish

  • Support Project Managers and Company Leadership in project financial tracking, accounting, and record keeping, including standard project setup within SWCA's project accounting system (Deltek Vision).
  • Assist in project setup and review, collaborating closely with project managers.
  • Conduct contract review and execution, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage subconsultant contracting and oversee their performance.
  • Handle resource allocation and multi-project scheduling, optimizing efficiency.
  • Oversee forecasting, budget tracking (including labor and other expenses), accounts receivable and payable management, and monitoring of overruns and change orders.
  • Draft progress reports, review invoices, and manage subcontract and vendor invoices.
  • Take responsibility for file organization, documentation management, and project closeout processes.
  • Actively participate in program management meetings, spearheading discussions on project controls-related topics.
  • Collaborate, communicate, and coordinate with project managers, other project control specialists and coordinators, and senior staff to proactively anticipate and address project needs.

  • Experience in project planning.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative capabilities.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an administrative/organizational role involving contract/subcontract review, budget tracking, invoice review, project management, and financial tracking.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, geology, anthropology, archaeology, history, environmental science, accounting, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Deltek Vision or similar software.
  • Familiarity with environmental protection laws, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  • Familiarity with GSA.

An employee in this Salt Lake City-based position can expect an hourly pay rate of $25.50-32.50/hour. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
